Overview
About Serbia
Serbia sits where the Pannonian plain meets the Balkan mountains, with Belgrade at the confluence of the Sava and Danube. Roman emperors were born here — Felix Romuliana and Viminacium survive — and medieval Nemanjić monasteries such as Studenica and Sopoćani hold UNESCO status. The Danube's Iron Gates gorge, the Uvac meanders and the Tara plateau give it real wilderness, while Novi Sad and Belgrade supply the nightlife the country is known for.
