The Kornati archipelago is 89 mostly-uninhabited limestone islands in a compact 320 sq km — George Bernard Shaw wrote that God made them 'from tears, stars and breath.' There are no proper towns, no cars, almost no fresh water; you visit by day-cruise from Murter, Zadar or Šibenik, snorkel in impossibly clear coves, and eat lunch at one of the island konobas that only open in summer. The 'Crowns' — sheer cliffs on the islands' western sides — are the geological showstopper.
