    Plješivica Ridge

    Mountain

The 65-km wall of Lička Plješivica forms Croatia's eastern natural border with Bosnia-Herzegovina and is one of the least-visited mountain ranges in the country — a treasure of primeval beech forest, glacial dolines and hidden bear country. Its highest peak, Ozeblin (1,657 m), is a full-day objective from Korenica; easier is the classic three-hour ascent from Šeganovac hamlet up to Vučjak (1,644 m) with panoramic views over Plitvice on one side and Bosnia's Grmeč range on the other. The ridge saw heavy fighting in 1991–95 and was on the front line of the Republika Srpska Krajina's western frontier; sections still have mine warnings so stick strictly to red-and-white waymarks and never wander off-trail. Wildlife density is spectacular — Plješivica has one of the highest brown bear densities in Europe (est. 40+ bears in the range), plus wolves, lynx, and chamois. A modest mountain hut, Planinarski Dom 'Vučjak', operates weekends only in summer. Combine with a visit to Plitvice for a proper Lika weekend: bear-country in the morning, turquoise lakes in the afternoon.
