Lastovo, on the very outer edge of the Croatian archipelago, is a nature-protected island with almost no tourism, dark skies rated among the best in the Adriatic for stargazing, and a signature architectural quirk — its village houses have tall, elaborate chimneys called fumari, no two exactly alike. Ferries from Split take around 4.5 hours; that's exactly the point.
