    Roški Slap

    Waterfall

Roški Slap is the upper great waterfall of Krka National Park, and while less famous than Skradinski Buk it is arguably even more beautiful — a wide gentle cascade of dozens of small travertine steps stretching 450 metres across the river valley and dropping 22 metres in total. Locals nickname it 'the necklace' (ogrlica) because from above the fall's twelve upper cascades look like a series of pearls linked by silver threads of falling water. A newly rebuilt wooden boardwalk system covers the entire fall in a 1.3-km loop with lovely picnic spots, wading pools for children (currently the only place in Krka NP where entering the water is still permitted, for children only in designated areas), and a fascinating restored watermill complex demonstrating the traditional stone milling of Dalmatian corn and buckwheat. Above the falls, the extraordinary Ozidana Pećina cave contains 8,000-year-old Neolithic pottery discovered in the 1970s and now displayed in a small on-site archaeological museum. Roški Slap is much less visited than Skradinski Buk and offers a far more peaceful experience — even in August you can find quiet corners. Access is by park road from either Skradin (1 hour drive) or the Miljevci plateau, or by scheduled 90-minute boat trip from Skradinski Buk.
