Old Town
Croatia's easternmost town sits on a Danube bluff looking straight across at Serbia, its medieval walls, Franciscan monastery and Odescalchi palace all recently restored. Ilok is best known for its dry Traminac wine — served at Queen Elizabeth II's coronation banquet in 1953 — and the cellars beneath the palace are a compulsory tasting stop. Sunset from the ramparts over the Danube is one of Croatia's quiet great views.
