- 1Kamenjak Viewpoint over Vransko Lake
Viewpoint
The 130-metre karst ridge of Kamenjak rises directly above Vransko Lake and offers what many photographers consider the single most beautiful panoramic view in Dalmatia — the entire lake spread out in the foreground, the tiny scattered islands of the Kornati archipelago in the middle distance, and on clear days the peaks of Kornat and Dugi Otok on the far horizon. A signposted 15-minute walk from a small car park on the Pirovac–Pakoštane road (well-marked from either direction) brings you to a wooden viewing platform on the summit; the walk is gentle enough for older children but the final approach involves scrambling over rough karst limestone so decent footwear is essential. Sunset here is genuinely magical — a phenomenon called the 'burning water' effect where the setting sun turns the entire lake surface molten gold — and photographers regularly walk up in late afternoon and stay for the show, though bring a torch for the walk back down. The ridge is exposed to the bura wind and can be uncomfortable in winter storms, but on a still summer evening it is unforgettable. A small wooden bench at the summit is inscribed with a poem by the local writer Ivan Slamnig celebrating the view.
