History
Vodnjan's parish church of St. Blaise houses one of Europe's strangest sacred collections: six naturally preserved mummified bodies of Catholic saints, kept behind the altar since the 19th century. The church itself is the largest in Istria, with the tallest bell tower on the peninsula (over 60 m).
“The mummies were transferred here from Venice in 1818 after Napoleon suppressed the convent of Santi Giovanni e Paolo.”
