Why visit Risnjak National Park
Risnjak is the small, quiet national park of Gorski Kotar — dark spruce forest, karst peaks and the crystal-clear source of the Kupa river gushing straight out of a rock face. It's named for the lynx (ris in Croatian) that hunt through it, along with bears and wolves.

History
Risnjak is the small, quiet national park of Gorski Kotar — dark spruce forest, karst peaks and the crystal-clear source of the Kupa river gushing straight out of a rock face. It's named for the lynx (ris in Croatian) that hunt through it, along with bears and wolves. The main hiking loop up to Veliki Risnjak (1,528 m) takes about 4 hours round-trip and delivers a rare Croatian view — dense forest in every direction instead of sea.
“The Kupa river bursts out of a cliff at Risnjak fully-formed and ice-cold — one of Europe's most spectacular karst river springs, feeding a river 296 km long.”
