History
Where the Drava meets the Danube spreads one of Europe's largest intact floodplain wetlands — a mosaic of oxbow lakes, willow forests and reed beds that fills and drains with the rivers. Over 290 bird species have been recorded here: white-tailed eagles, black storks, cormorant colonies. Take a boat through the flooded forest, walk the raised wooden causeways, and eat carp fiš paprikaš in nearby Kopačevo.
“During spring floods the water level rises up to five metres and turns entire forests into a labyrinth of navigable channels.”
