History
Lubenice clings to a cliff-edge 378 metres above the Kvarner sea — a walled village of grey stone whose population has hovered near single digits for decades. In summer, an evening classical-music series ('Lubeničke ljetne večeri') fills the tiny main square. Below the village, a steep 45-minute descent leads to St. John's Bay, one of the Adriatic's most beautiful — and least accessible — beaches. Bring water; there are no shops.
“Lubenice has been inhabited continuously for around 4,000 years — one of the oldest continuously-lived-in settlements in Croatia, even as its population dwindles.”
