Why visit
Why visit Brijuni National Park
A cluster of 14 wooded islands just off Fažana, Brijuni is a national park with a very unusual history — for decades it was Marshal Tito's summer retreat, where he received film stars, presidents and a private zoo of animals gifted by African leaders. Their descendants (zebras, llamas, ostriches) still roam a safari park.

History
A cluster of 14 wooded islands just off Fažana, Brijuni is a national park with a very unusual history — for decades it was Marshal Tito's summer retreat, where he received film stars, presidents and a private zoo of animals gifted by African leaders. Their descendants (zebras, llamas, ostriches) still roam a safari park. Add Roman villa ruins, dinosaur footprints preserved in the limestone shore, and a 1,600-year-old olive tree, and this is Istria's most surreal day trip.
“The islands preserve over 200 dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period — you can literally walk in their tracks along the shoreline.”
